K + T Wedding

We got the scoop on one of our most recent Union customer love stories, and we're so excited to share this treasure with you!

Here's just a little snippet of their story...

"Teddy and I met in Highschool back in Michigan- he was a senior, I was a freshman.  And then we reconnected after college, when I moved to California in 2010 for work. We dated on and off for 8 years through many cities, states and career changes.  He proposed January 2017…and the rest is history!"

What do your wedding rings/bands symbolize to you, in your relationship specifically?

"Our rings represent our commitment to one another.  It’s a beautiful and sparkly symbol of our relationship and commitment to work through all the ups and downs together forever.  We have a soul contract, and our rings remind us of that constantly."

What advice would you give to other couples who are getting ready to buy their wedding bands and tie the knot?

"I’d say to get something you really love and can afford without stressing about it.  Try on all different types and styles- because just like a wedding dress, the perfect ring is probably one you hadn’t imagined until you tried it on. Ask for advice from friends and family sparingly- everyone will have a different opinion, and it really doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks, it matters what you think."

How was your experience with Union Jewelry Co.?

"Amazing!  We love that you worked with us every step of the way- through designs and re-designs and over and over.  It was great to be able to send images and texts back and forth and know that you knew exactly what we wanted.  You were always on our same page.  Not to mention, the quality of diamonds and the craftsmanship is ideal.  I receive compliments daily on how beautiful and bright my rings are.  I’m obsessed. "

2018 Engagement Ring Trends - What you'll see, and what to know

Not too long ago we posted an Instagram story highlighting some of the up and coming trends in engagement ring styles, and we received a lot of feedback asking for MORE info! Love is in the air, as this is proposal season for all those 2018 Summer weddings! Whether you know exactly what you want, you're still not sure, or you just love lookin' at pretty rocks - here's a little bit of diamond ed to get those creative wheels turning.

1. Oval Cuts | Oval cuts lend that vintage, yet highly sophisticated look that every bride wants. Why are they so popular (and on the rise)? They look bigger! It's true - a 1 carat oval diamond looks 10% bigger than the same carat round or princess cut, simply because of the surface area. A quick tip when shopping for oval cuts: You'll want to know if you want yours "Tall or Squat." In other words - a more narrow oval, or a shorter, wider oval? If you're looking to surround your diamond with accent stones or a halo, we recommend a "Tall" oval cut so it doesn't look crowded.

In case you were curious, here are a couple famous gals with oval cut engagement rings: Blake Lively, Kate Middleton, Heidi Klum

2. Stacked bands | We're seeing a lot less of the traditional coordinating wedding bands, and a lot more mixing and matching. Brides are having fun with custom ring stacks, as a way of highlighting and complimenting (but not over crowding) the engagement ring - which should remain the star of the show! What are the rules here? Well, there aren't many. As far as mixing metals, diamonds, and gems, the rules is: anything goes. The idea here is to have fun expressing your own unique style and love what you see when you look down.

Fun fact? In Scandinavia - it's actually typical for women to wear 3 stacks! One for engagement, one for marriage, and one for motherhood - Union approves this trend!

3. Rose Gold | Rose gold has that warm, romantic feel that sets it apart from other golds. And yes, it's true - rose gold is actually more affordable than white or yellow because copper (used to make rose gold) costs less! It's also the most durable gold, making it tougher and less likely to get scratched or dinged. Both guys and gals are diggin' the rose gold this season because of its versatility and durability.

Also in right now: mixing golds! We're seeing lots of white gold engagement rings, for example, paired with rose gold bands.

4. Colored Gemstones | We saw it in wedding dresses last season, and we're continuing to see the trend rise in rings - color! 'Cuz why not, right? Thanks to celebs like Carrie Underwood and her canary yellow diamond ring, classic diamonds have some serious competition! Some popular gems we're seeing used include sapphires, emeralds, and morganite.

But since diamonds will always have so much significance when it comes to marriage, we're seeing these colored gemstones set in accent diamonds for tradition's sake.

6. Pear Cut (Or Teardrop) | Consider yourself on the more edgy side when it comes to style and taste? A lot of brides are digging the pear-cut styles, a cut that tends to be considered more 'trendy' and fashion-forward. Katherine Heigle, Victoria Beckham, and Jessica Simpson all rock the pear shape.

(PS - since we know you were wondering... typically, you wear the pear shape with the point facing towards your fingernails)

Keep your eye out for these trends, and feel free to say hi if you want to chat quality, custom Jewelry. There's nothing we love more than creating unique pieces with you in mind.

Kyle + Brooke

The moment he asked | Sherman Library and Gardens | 12 August, 2017

We got the scoop on one of our most recent Union customer love stories, and we're absolutely over the moon for these two.

Here's just a little snippet of their history:

"We met through mutual friends and were acquaintances for about a year before there was any interest. We had a friend constantly third wheel for about 6 months and then the third wheel fell off and sparks flew as we would take mini trips to LA, long day dates, and weekend adventures to see new places. The sweetest memories we have in our early dating life were in Malibu. With the balance of our grounded friendship and the newly developed sparks, there was no denying that there was mutual affection. We officially kicked things off as boyfriend/girlfriend in May of 2016."

We asked if there was a 'moment' when she knew...

"There was never someone I couldn't live without, until Kyle. I had that feeling pretty early on, around the time that we started officially dating in May. I had this overwhelming peace that he was the one, I trusted him throughout the dating process, and he held my heart very delicately through it all. We got engaged August 12, 2017 and are officially looking forward to a Napa wedding on January 4th, 2018."

Brooke, what does an engagement ring symbolize to you, in your relationship specifically?

"There was so something so precious in how hard Kyle worked to get the ring. Even though I was impatient and ready to get engaged, he really wanted to wait and get me a ring that he felt like I deserved. He cared so much for me to want to get me a ring that he knew I would love forever. Wearing this ring has been a picture of grace to me. When I look down I have this feeling that I don't deserve to wear it, and that's what grace is. It's a gift."

Kyle, what advice would you give to other couples who are getting ready to buy a ring and get engaged?

"Gents, this is the ONLY time in your life that you get to buy a piece of jewelry that holds incredible and powerful symbolism. Take your time, have some fun, and definitely don't be cheap! Oh and it's ok to ask her for her ring size and what she likes...It shouldn't be a surprise that your going to propose in near future, so get the one piece of jewelry she will wear her whole life right!"

How was your experience with Union Jewelry Co.?

"Darren is the man! Personal, humble and cares about your experience. The first time I met with him at his office, he had a coffee waiting for me. I appreciate good hospitality. In regards to the ring, I gave him a photo of Brooke's dream ring and they were able to recreate it perfectly. We couldn't be more happy about it."
